Safer Summer Fun

In Virginia, we are blessed with many beautiful lakes, rivers, and ocean fronts. As we move into the full swing of summer, Virginians will head to these attractions for swimming, fishing and boating fun. It is important to remember that power boats - Altizer Lawwaterways—just like roads—can be dangerous places if proper safety precautions are not followed. Virginia has enacted boating laws and regulations in an effort to keep all users safe from injuries on Virginia’s waterways.

Beginning on July 1, 2016, all personal watercraft operators age 14 and older and all motorboat operators of any age must pass a boating safety course approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and accepted by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Operators must carry the certification card on board and have it available for inspection by any enforcement officer. The safety certification does not expire and does not need to be renewed.

By taking the safety certification course and following the boating laws and regulations, we can all have safer summer fun!

If you or a loved one are injured in a boating accident due to the negligence or illegal actions of another person, call Altizer Law, P.C. We have the knowledge and experience to help you obtain justice.
