A married couple was injured in a car crash when the driver coming toward them in another lane turned in front of their vehicle. This high-impact collision occurred when the turning vehicle hit the couple’s vehicle head-on while they were traveling at 50 mph.
The husband (80 years old) sustained five fractured ribs, a fractured sternum, neck, shoulder, and left knee pain, and a broken left pinky finger. He was hospitalized for six days following the crash. The wife (73 years old) sustained a lumbar transverse process fracture at L2-L3, right tibial plateau fracture, internal bleeding, a right knee fracture, four fractured ribs on the left side, fractured right ring finger, multiple contusions, and right-side pneumothorax. She was also hospitalized for six days following the crash.
Two months before the scheduled trial date on the husband’s case, and one day prior to scheduled mediation for both cases, the cases were settled. Both of the plaintiffs had fully recovered at the time of settlement. The financial settlement of $445,000 included special damages of $138,595 for medical bills.
This recent auto accident case underscores the dangers of head-on collisions. It is also a clear summary of the types of injuries often sustained in car crashes of this kind.
