The City of Lexington, located in Rockbridge County, may be best known as the home of two of Virginia’s top Universities: Virginia Military Academy and Washington and Lee University. It is also a popular stepping-off point for wonderful outdoor adventures in Rockbridge County and beyond, and it has a rich and interesting history. Its main economic base is thus higher education and tourism.
The City is contained within an area of 2.5 square miles (all land), and is home to 6,998 people, according to 2012 data. In May of 2016, it was named one of the “Top 10 Small Towns of the Capital Region” (which includes Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.). It is located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Allegheny Mountains in the Shenandoah Valley region of the state.
The Traffic Picture

Marshall Museum, the Museum of Military Memorabilia, and McCormick Farm (now owned by Virginia Tech and operated as a satellite agricultural research center).

Washington and Lee University is a private liberal arts university located in the center of the City. The name of the school, originally founded as Augusta Academy, is homage to President George Washington, who endowed the academy with a gift of stock in 1796, and to General Robert E. Lee, who served as president of the college from the end of the Civil War until his death in 1870. Established in 1749, it is the ninth oldest institution of higher learning in the U.S. and the second oldest in Virginia. The University consists of three academic units: the college; the Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics; and the School of Law. It hosts the intercollegiate athletic teams within the Old Dominion Athletic Conference of the NCAA Division III.
Virginia Military Institute is the oldest state-supported military college in the U.S. The school enrolls only military cadets and awards only Bachelor’s Degrees. The school is known for its strict military discipline and a “Spartan” environment that is both physically and academically demanding. Although all students participate in the ROTC program, upon graduation they have the option of entering the military or pursuing civilian employment.

Accidents happen and mistakes are made in every industry and every type of workplace. When someone is injured due to the negligence or malicious actions of another, criminal charges may or may not be brought against the person responsible. Criminal actions, however, do not typically protect the rights of the injured or obtain fair compensation for them. Financial restitution can often be obtained through a civil case that seeks compensation for personal injury or wrongful death to cover lost wages, pain and suffering, medical expenses, and sometimes more. Bettina Altizer and Terri Welch Luzynski, the attorneys of Altizer Law, each bring to every case more than 25 years of protecting the injured and winning just compensation beyond the limits of workers compensation insurance for their hurts and harms. We are here to help you if you are injured due to the malicious actions or negligence of another.
Although healthcare is not a major industry in Lexington, as it is in Roanoke, for example, healthcare is provided in Lexington by Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Rockbridge Area Hospice, Heritage Hall nursing and rehabilitation care, MetPath, and Project Horizon. Medical care is an area in which mistakes can happen, and when they do the consequences are serious.
Altizer Law practices law in the area of Medical Malpractice, Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect, and other specific types of medical malpractice. We know that the medical practitioners of Lexington are devoted and highly-trained professionals. However, if a mistake or negligence on the part of a facility or a practitioner causes harm to you or a loved one, we are available to help you understand how their actions are understood under Virginia law, and to represent you in seeking appropriate compensation for harms and losses.
